* TMG to FH import of Custom Flags
TMG to FH import of Custom Flags
I recently purchased FamilyHistorian v.7 and imported my TMG project directly to it without using gedcom.
It has apparently gone well except for one thing.
In TMG I have made a custom flag to mark people who belong to the minority group of Forest Finns in Norway and Sweden, called "Finneslekt" (Finnish origin).
These are marked in green.
In the import to FH, the flag has been imported but not the color marking.
Is there a way to get this color marking in FH when the flag "Finneslekt" is set to "J" (Yes)?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: TMG to FH import of Custom Flags
Welcome to the FHUG.
I have moved this posting to the Importing and Exporting forum.
No, sorry, there is no colour associated with FH record Flags (or anything else) except possibly in Diagrams.
The record Flag can be shown on the Main tab of the Property Box, listed in the Records Window, and filtered by a Query.
So it is easy to identify those Individuals but not by using colour.
FYI: See the FHUG Knowledge Base advice on Importing to Family Historian especially under Import from The Master Genealogist (TMG).

Re: TMG to FH import of Custom Flags
Thank you Mike.
In the Focus Window all the names are in blue frames. I hoped there would be a way to change the colour to green directly in the program or by a plug in for those with the "Finneslekt"-flag.
But I understand you to that is not possible.
I have to get to know FH better to get it adapted to me.
Thank you for your answer.
Regards
Tore

Re: TMG to FH import of Custom Flags
You are not the first to ask about having that sort of colour coding based on conditions such as record Flags.
However, it is not a feature that Calico Pie have chosen to implement in FH yet (except in Diagrams where it is possible).
As I said, it is possible to make the Flag very visible textually but not in colour.
I can explain how if you are interested.

Since I am completely new to the use of FH, I am of course interested in all the help I can get.
So please explain how to make Flag very visible.

Re: TMG to FH import of Custom Flags
Ok, there are several options:
There are also ways of showing Flags in Reports and creating Named Lists of records with Flags.
- Property Box
This option adds a Finneslekt flag tick-box to the Main tab of the Property Box.
In the Property Box, click its cog Menu and choose Customize Property Box...
Untick 'Show most commonly-used items only', select <Custom Item> from Available Items, and click the > add button.
Choose 'Main area for Individual', enter Item Name: Finneslekt, tick Part 1 and enter Label: Finneslekt.
Click the Data Reference: <<Select button and under Flags choose your Finneslekt record Flag, then OK out.
# - Records Window
This option adds a Finneslekt flag tick column that can bring all such Individual records together.
Click the Records Window icon in the vertical Navigation Bar on left, or use View > Other Record Lists > Individuals.
Right-click a column header and Configure Columns... or use Lists > Configure Record Window Columns...
In the Items on the left scroll down to select your Finneslekt Flag and click the > add button.
Click the column heading to bring all Finneslekt records to the top.
# - Query
This lists all Individual records with the Finneslekt Flag.
Use the Query > Flags and Named Lists > Has Flag command, choose the Flag: Finneslekt Flag and click OK.
# - Diagram
This identifies Individual records with the Finneslekt Flag with some unique characteristic.
Use the Charts > All Relatives... command and select a Root Person.
Use Diagram > Options... and open the Boxes tab.
Use <<Add Condition > Record Flag, choose the Finneslekt Flag and click OK.
In the Box Features dialogue choose a Box Fill colour or an Icon and OK out.
Any box for a record with that Flag will display with that Box Feature.

Re: TMG to FH import of Custom Flags
I have now followed your instructions and I am very satisfied with the result.
All the Forest Finns coms out clearly in the Diagram Window.
I wish it could be done with the people in the Focus Window as well.
That would have made FH the very best program for me.
Thank you again.
