Selective Undelete

Post by Gowermick » 12 Aug 2021 07:42

Is there a way of viewing the Deletion history so one can Undelete a specific entry?

e.g. You delete six individuals, but then realise you shouldn't have deleted the third one. It would be neat if one could restore No 3 without first having to restore Nos 6,5,4, then 3, then having to delete Nos 6,5 & 4 again.

Go to edit on the top of FH and prompt 'undo' that will restore what you have deleted. Though I am not sure it works if you delete blocks. I have deleted a number of tiems and prompted undo several times going back to the first item I had deleted. All were restored

With my programming hat on that would be almost impossible as you can undo anything so there would be the possibility of causing cascade problems.

If you are deleting lots of records why not simply add them to a list and then check it twice before using delete list records to remove them all.

Victor,
I know you can work backwards as you say, but that is not what I was asking. Of my last 6 deletes, can I undelete no 3, without undeleting the other 5! :D

The short answer is NO that is not possible.

I agree with Jane. In general, the series of edits (that may not be simple deletes) can be dependent on each other.
So it is not feasible to undo one edit in the middle of a series without considering later edits in the series, and that would be horrendous to analyse.

In Mike L’s original scenario, a better option if you are planning to delete a number of individuals might be to assign them to a list, then delete the list. That gives you the option to review the specifics before committing. Probably not worth it for 6 individuals, but it would be for 20.
