How to save own text scheme

Post by pmolnar » 11 Aug 2021 15:13

Hi All,

Is it possible to save the newly created text schemes in diagram options?

https://imgur.com/FbKDSoU

I tried the 'Diagram > Save/Restore Options > Save current diagram options' but this is not that I want exactly, I would like to have my settings for example in a file like the defaults are present in Diagrams folder. Currently is it stored somewhere int the app?

Thanks

Text schemes are not at the diagram level as they can be used on any diagram.

If you want to have a specific diagram type (eg Ancestors Diagram) with that scheme set it up and then use the Diagram>Save as>Custom Diagram Type and it will then appear on the drop down.

P.S to add images, just click on the attachments link when posting.

Thanks for the reply.

Is it possible to backup my scheme settings from FH? If I have to reinstall the app, I don't want to loose them.

To create your own Text Schemes you should use the Clone button in the Diagram > Options > Text tab.
That lets you name your custom copy Text Scheme and preserves the standard Text Scheme.
Such custom Text Schemes can be used in any type of Diagram.

You can use the File > Import/Export > Export > Diagram Text Scheme... command to save each custom file.

Most customisations are saved in the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\ folder.
See FHUG Knowledge Base Family Historian Program Data Folder for details.

That folder can be included in your regular Windows PC backup regime.
It can also be arranged to be a OneDrive or other cloud sync service folder.

However, there are other customisation details held in the Windows Registry and other folders.
See Understanding the Scope of Features for full details.

There is a Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin that handles all those various customisations.
See Backup and Recovery for further details.

Usually, when FH is reinstalled, it does not upset customisations, but you are wise to keep backups.

Check out the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin, which will do what you need and back up other customisations as well.

Understanding the Scope of Features provides some useful background.
