I am working on place studies for World War 2.
In order to look at survival rates, I need to search for death records. On the Eastern front where civilian death rates were high, there are few registrations, and to record the lack of a findable death record I have been typing nf in the date field (Not found).

fh adds quotes and treats the "nf" as a date phrase. Fine, but every time I enter nf, fh requires 2 further clicks to confirm this.

Is there any way of using settings so I can type in nf without having to reassure the programme with 2 further clicks? I still have another 300 people to work through.

I suspect any of the "official" methods will add as many extra clicks as the way you're attempting to do it.

How about adding "(nf)" to the end of the place-name - e.g. "Eastern Front (nf)"?

There is no way of avoiding that Date Phrase confirmation dialogue.

Could you simply leave the Date field empty to indicate it cannot be found?

Either that or enter the Date as between 1940 and 1945 or whatever covers the Eastern front period.

Another idea, similar to Adrian's, is to add nf to the Cause field.

Thank you for your help. I asked just to make sure that the experts did not have a way of speeding it up.
I decided against adding a death period.

Although most post war USA deaths and some German are on line, Polish post war deaths are I think not, due to different data protection. So it is currently a not found.

Personally I would use the cause as Mike suggests, but if you really want to put it in the date field type

"nf"

and you will not get the prompt.

I have discovered a shortcut that works.

Enter "nf" including the string quotes into the Date field and there is no extra dialogue.

BTW: A Date field with "nf" looks very odd in the Narrative Sentences, e.g. He died "nf" in Eastern front.

'nf' (single quotes) is even quicker, as you don't have to press and release the shift key twice!
