Displaying branches of the tree

Post by HanniganResearch » 09 Jul 2021 14:13

In FH7, how can I display branches of the tree? a branch would be tied to a particular 'ROOT' surname individual for all individuals in that branch. For example, using my paternal GGF as the ROOT, how do I prepare a listing of all the individuals (including spouses and children) in that branch of the family tree. Understanding there will be multiple branches for some people (myself, my dad, my mother, my grandmother, my grandfather, etc.) who connect to other branches.

Is this a Named List project?

That is quite an interesting branch definition. Let me check I understand what you want.

(1) Starting from a Root Person, you want all their Ancestors including their Spouses.
You want the Descendants of all those Ancestors mentioned above.
You want the Ancestors & Spouses of all those Descendants mentioned above, and so on for all such sub-branches.

(2) Also, starting from the same Root Person, you want their Descendants including their Spouses.
But you do not want the Ancestors of any of those Descendants.

What do you want to happen if there are any common Ancestors via different branches?
e.g. Your GGG-grandfather married your wife's GGG-grandmother.
Because then the first set of rules above would include both your and your wife's branches, which is in conflict with the second set of rules.
