GOOD AFTERNOON FHUG!

Changing the size of the superscript SOURCE REF NUMBER at the end of the family member name seems impossible.
EX: Dennis Beatley 1,2 - note these numbers are shifted to top of Beatley - couldn't figure out how to shift them up here.

I've tried just about everything in the FORMAT TAB in OPTIONS... dialog where you can change the report appearance once it's generated. Color me stumped.

Is this even possible I ask the community. I have issues reading text that tiny - old age can be a bixxch!

Sometimes [sup]1,2[/sup] works as a BBCode but not here. Sorry.
The alternative would be to attach a screenshot as explained in Forum Usage Tips under Attachments and Taking Screenshots.

You can only change the report font size for all the section text and not just superscripts.
Report > Options > Format > Section Data

I know about

- but there’s no option to format the Source ref. Numbers.

This screenshot should illustrate the text I want to change. At the very least the color - that light grey prints very light for my taste. At the end of "BEATLEY" are 2 source references - very small and a light grey(?). This is the text I would like to format differently. From your reply I assume this is not possible? If not, then I'll submit a suggestion/new feature request.

It doesn't help the display on screen, but superscript legibility is much better if you export the report as a RTF file and print or PDF from MS Word. See attached examples below. FH does seem to use an unusually illegible format for its superscripts. The Word default is much better, although other word processors may differ.

It's common practice to export reports to Word in order to tidy up formatting and presentation.

I suspect Dennis wants the legibility on-screen in FH rather than a separate Report file.

The font has already been customised to a sans serif font such as Arial instead of the default Times New Roman.

I found that Consolas and DejaVu Sans had more separation of the superscripts from the preceding text than other fonts such as Arial, Tahoma & Verdana.

When you increase the font size does the superscript size increase in proportion or do they remain small?
Do you have FH V7.0.3 installed, as I think some earlier versions did not update the superscript size with the font size.

My understanding is that there is no "standard" way of representing superscripts relative to the main text, and it is largely under the control of the originating software. I think it is a fair complaint against FH that they have chosen an unusually small and difficult to read way of presenting them. Tweaking the font probably helps, but it can't fix the underlying problem.

Good Morning folks.
First, thanks for the information and your insights.
Second, I have FH 7 fully updated to the current version as of today.

I’ve tried several different fonts and yet those superscripts rarely change. It’s frustrating that FH7 can’t format them to my liking since FH has fairy decent report formatting controls.

I will try those fonts as suggested- I’ve always used Arial - I just like the look of the font. Also, I’ll try the RTF export as well. I usually save all my "finalized" reports as PDF's regardless as archival material if I need to fact-check research.

Anyway, I will file a "Bug/New Feature Suggestion" to Calico. Maybe they have a solution unbeknownst to us users.

Ugh. Tried exporting report as RTF this led to a whole set of woes!
A recent “security” update to windows 10 prevents opening of rtf files in word/excel etc due to ability for hackers to install malicious code etc. To add to my woes is the fact I use the “online” versions of MS Office 360. Who can afford the outrageous price of Office 360 - I barely use word these days. I’m off on a tangent but I had to vent- sorry.

You get a security warning that the content is blocked and cannot be viewed. I’ve spent the entire morning trying different solutions from dear old Microsoft to no avail.

Had to resort to using google docs to try the workaround voiced here. To wit, changing the font to Consolas does indeed upscale the ref number to a more legible size.

Firstly, there are plenty of free alternatives to MS Office, Word, Excel, etc, that install on your PC.
e.g. Open Office, Libre Office, WPS Office, et al...

It should be possible to select Consolas within the FH Report > Options > Format settings.
Perhaps that Consolas font just needs installing on your PC.

Hi Mike.
Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking at the alternatives you mentioned last night. As far as the font goes, it was missing from the font list in FH. Got it installed today. I'm a font junkie

Anyway, I found scores of complaints from users regarding this BS security patch. There is no way to get around it - at least not I can find after hours of looking and trying differing workarounds. They used to work on earlier patched versions of WIN10 but not the version I'm on. And backing off updates is a sure way to totally break WIN10. Believe me I know!!!

FYI

I decided on the Apache OpenOffice suite. I looked at WPS Office (based in China)- although not banned yet in the US, I'm weary of that changing in the future - given recent events in that region. Going to look at Libre Office as well later today.
