novaPDF 7 Printer not Working in V6

Post by BobWard » 21 Mar 2021 00:39

Never had a problem with the FH pdf printer for all the years that I have had Family Historian. I still run V6.

I have not tried to print any FH docs to pdf for over a year. Unfortunately, when I tried to print an ISR today, the file opened in Adobe Acrobat 8.1 and all of the pictures were missing.

I have "novaPDF 7 Printer" set as my default printer in Windows 10. Also, the "Family Historian PDF" is set as the printer when I select Print when the ISR is displayed.

I also have Open PDF with default viewer in the Save PDF File As box.

All of my previous ISR pdf files still open (in Adobe Acrobat 8.1) will all images being displayed correctly. The problem is only with the new files that I created today. So, there appears to be some bug (jpg images not being displayed) in the pdf files that FH is creating.

Any ideas as to what may have happened? Perhaps a Windows 10 update has upset something?

Printing problem caused by Cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64 based systems KB5000802 (19114) supposedly only affected FH7 but it might be worth checking if it's the cause of your problem anyway?

It may be worth trying a different viewer, do they display in FoxIt or in Firefox/Chrome built in PDF viewers?

A Google search for Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1 suggests it is quite an old version and may not behave well in Windows 10.

I rebooted the computer this morning and everything now seems to be back to normal. Had not done a reboot in over a week, just letting the machine go into Sleep mode at night. That must have caused some kind of glitch.

Thanks for the replies.
