Outline reports - Descendant outline
Hello,
In version 6.2.7 the report "outline reports - descendant outline" was perfect. (see attach)
In version 7.0 the same report are missing lines on the left side (see attach)
In both versions, I use printer: "Family Historian PDF" , A4, landscape (I didn't change the printer)
How can I fix this problem?
The translations in this report to the dutch language are very good. Thanks to the makers of the program.
Greetings
Koenraad

Re: Outline reports - Descendant outline
That Connecting Lines optional feature seems to have been removed from FH v7.0.
I can only suggest you complain directly to Calico Pie via http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php support.

Re: Outline reports - Descendant outline
I am very disppointed to hear this as the descendant outline reports are the best report for my purposes and without the connecting lines are very difficult to follow for large numbers of people. I am entitled to a free upgrade to FH7 but won't be upgrading because of this. Please keep us posted if you hear back from Calico Pie. I would add that the old TMG gave a nicer output in Word including connecting lines which you could easily customise. FH6 output loses the connecting lines altogether in the RTF output which is the only word processing output. I can convert the PDF to Word but it is not possible to significantly modify the Word document without the connecting lines becoming displaced. TMG could do it, why not FH.

Also, complain directly to Calico Pie via http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php support so they can gauge the scale of users upset by the change.

Is there a time limit for claiming. I purchased direct from calico Pie last June.

Re: Outline reports - Descendant outline
I am also very disappointed to see how FH Version 7 has taken a retrograde step in regard to the quality / style / clarity of descendant outline reports, compared to something that was OK and workable in Version 6.2.
The disappearance of the connecting vertical lines (and the indented horizontal lines) to show members of the same generation has resulted in reports in Version 7 not being as clear to read, lacking a professional style and is rather embarrassing to use, to be frank.
Is this an oversight, a new "undocumented feature" or a cheap and nasty replacement of the previous report generator??
I used Version 6.2 Descendant Outline Report extensively as it was easy to read (for those not wanting narrative reports), and it was clear to locate members of the same generation, either on the same page or many pages above or below. With large families of say 12 to 15 siblings it was easy for people to follow the vertical connecting lines onto to other A4 pages and quickly locate another sibling.
Also in Version 7, the use of a tiny "=" to show a spouse / partner in the report as opposed to showing "Sp." with a "o" in Version 6.2 may seem minor but it was much easier to locate a partnership and more meaningful in the previous version.
The third issue with the Version 7 report is that any included notes for a person are not indented correctly under the start of that person's name. They are aligned under the "=" in front of the name on the spouse / partner. This is not a professional looking report and reduces readability.
While there are lots of advanced features introduced in Version 7 it is disappointing to see how this report generation part of the application has not received the attention it deserves to modernise it and to build in user-customisable features and end-user flexibility. It has now become more rigid and the end result is poor.
I have also logged a ticket with CP Support as I think this is an important problem which needs prompt rectification to return this report generation to "the modern era" like the rest of the application.

Re: Outline reports - Descendant outline
I agree with Maxi on this subject - the V7 Descendants Outline report is a major step down from the V6.2 version.
Any report must be 'user centric' in that it is written and structured to meet the needs of the reader (who is always the primary user of any report). The V6.2 version was a good example of a reader centric document; the V7 version is not reader centric. This is a significant problem that is obviously an issue for a number of users, so needs to be corrected promptly.

Re: Outline reports - Descendant outline
I too am very annoyed about this significant degradation, and have raised yet another support ticket with CP.

Re: Outline reports - Descendant outline
I have also raised a support ticket on this item.
The response from CP is not encouraging: "Sorry it is not currently possible to do in the new report engine I have logged your feedback for the developers."
At the moment, it seems the options are to either revert to V6.2.7 (if possible) or export the file in rtf and add lines in Word (a time consuming and tedious process!).
