Automatic Marking of Diagram Boxes

Post by rfj1001 » 30 Jan 2021 15:12

I'm trying to find a better way see people in a diagram who have a DNA match - eg 8 individuals who appear all over the place in a large All Relatives Diagram.

The best I've managed to come up with in terms of seeing who and where they are in the tree is :

- set a flag against each matched person to indicate a DNA match.
- The set flag is shown as an icon on the diagram.
- I visually look for the icons on the diagram and then manually mark each box

Needless to say there are lots of limitations using this method - time to do it, errors and, of course, I lose the marks if I redraw and have to start again.

Is there a way of doing it or, at least, a better way than I'm doing currently

Thanks in advance

Presumably, you are marking the boxes for some subsequent purpose.
If we knew that subsequent purpose, there may be another method altogether.

BTW: Would it be better to use DNA Facts rather than DNA Flags to trigger DNA Icons?
The DNA Facts could hold a lot more useful information.

I assume that when you say you mark the boxes you mean you select them in the diagram and then use Diagram>Selections and Marks>Mark/Unmark Boxes to change the colour of the box.

But why start by setting an icon which you then have to look for in the diagram in order to select and mark the boxes? Why not just make the box colour (or border) conditional on the existence of the flag or fact? No need to use icons as an intermediate step. I have a box scheme where individuals with a DNA fact have a wide purple border round their boxes, which stands out easily.

Thanks Lorna. That's the type of solution I was looking for :)
