Editing a custom citation template?

Post by fhtess65 » 24 Jan 2021 02:00

In RootsMagic, when I create a citation template, if I find something that needs tweaking, I can edit it and the change(s) show up right away.

I have tried editing a couple of the templates I've created in FH7, only there doesn't seem to be a way to save them, so I have to create a brand new one and then add that one to my project. Is there really no way to edit a user-created template?

Thanks.

Are you using Tools > Source Template Definitions, selecting your custom template and then View/Edit, which brings up the Edit screen (with a Save button top right)?

Hi Helen,

I realize now I had found how to Save, but it didn't (and still doesn't) appear to have "taken"... I'm attaching a screen capture of the modified template (adding {Type} field at the beginning of the Footnote).

Below the template, is a screencap of the citation window, showing that the {Type} field didn't appear. I had to create and entirely new template.

I'm probably missing something obvious.

Thanks for any insight.

From memory you need to synch the changes (Tools > Source Template Definitions, select the source and then Compare/Synch... there may be another way to do it but I'm away from my PC at the moment.

I tried as you suggested, and while it said it had been updated, yet again, when I tried to cite with it, the {Type} field wasn't there. Not sure if this is user error (still entirely possible) or a minor bug.
