Recording cousins wwho marry
I have a segment of my tree represented by married couple James Scott and Catherine Mortimer and four generations down to present. One of their children William married my relative Mary O'Malley. Accordingly the family members of the Scott and O'Malley families were recorded in my tree. I now find that William had a brother Anthony whose son Anthony Scott married a daughter of William Scott ie Mary Scott. Anthony and Mary were first cousins. Mary was a widow. when she married Anthony. How do I show this relationship in my family chart. Edward

Start with one of the cousins and when you add their spouse choose the option to Link Existing Record. Then browse for the other cousin to add as the spouse.

Thank you. That works fine. I presume that the same method is used for other inter family marriages that come to light.

You are correct in your assumption. The problem is knowing when the intended spouse is already in your tree
Family Tree Maker does ask (or it used to, I haven’t used in a long time) if the new spouse is a match for a specific person already in your tree. In other words it searched through existing tree members looking for a match to you new spouse.
They may be easy to recognise if they have an unusual name, but more often than not, that is not the case, ( I did spot one quite recently)
It would be a great idea for a plugin, to check for such duplicate entries, but I daresay someone will tell me it already exists

Yes, it's the cunningly named Find Duplicate Individuals plugin. (By Mike, of course). It would be a great idea for a plugin, to check for such duplicate entries, but I daresay someone will tell me it already exists
