Automatic Source Citations Not Working Properly in V7

Post by waveydavey2016 » 29 Dec 2020 14:45

Hi All,
I have downloaded V7 today and it is a step forward in many areas. But Automatic Source Citations don't seem to be working properly:
I want to add a Census text paragraph to each person in the family it relates to. I have created a new source called "1901 Census RG13/812/12/16" and given it a generic type "Census". When I then click Enable Automatic Source Citations, I get the familiar lightning flash. I create a new text box for the next text for the husband of the family and type the Census text in. But then, when I click off the text box, the source is not applied to the text! If I go back and edit one character, the source is added to the text box. This happens for every subsequent text box I add for everyone else - what am I doing wrong?
N.B. Using the same method, the Automatic source method does automatically add sources for People's names, dates of birth and occupations.

I don't see any difference from the way it worked in FH V6.
I agree that the Sources For pane does not immediately show the Note* and linked Source record.
That is because FH does not know when you have finished typing in the text box.
But just click in the empty part of the Sources For pane and it appears ~ FH V6 and FH V7 are the same.

When you add Names, Dates, Facts, etc, then FH knows the action is completed.
P.S. When adding a Name it is actually very similar to adding a Note and needs another click.
Maybe, you were talking about adding an Individual record?

P.P.S. What I did discover is if you use more (+)... and add an Alternate Name it does NOT get an Automatic Source Citation in either FH V6 or FH V7 and that IS a fault. i.e. Name[2] gains no Citation. :!:

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply - it may be that it's only my installation - that's Windows for you! I updated from version 6.2 (so didn't uninstall it first). Whether I create a new source or choose an existing one I get the same result.

To repeat: I click the Auto button in the new ribbon bar. I click "Select" > Select Existing Source. I select any existing source. I then click the Enable Auto Source Citation button on the left and get the lightning flash. You are quite right - the source pane won't update until you move off that field. But if I go to an individual record in the property box and click "+ Add Note", then type text in the new "word processor" box and click Ok. Quite rightly the source chosen doesn't get added to the sources list and no asterisk is added to the "Note" sources. But then regardless of where I click after that, the source is not added. If double click the text box and edit the text by one character and then click "OK" then the source box is filled!

Alternatively if I add a new name, occupation, date of birth, when I click anywhere else then the source box is filled.

Could it be something unique to my installation? And if so do you think it would be beneficial to uninstall FH 7 and re-install it?

Many Thanks,
Dave

And yes you're right: Alternative names of any kind never did get a source in FH6!

You are absolutely correct about a new rich text Note created via the Notes tab not getting an Automatic Source Citation.

That is a fault and needs reporting via http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php along with the Alternative Name.
Give the comparison that adding the Note via the Main tab directly into the Note box (without the rich text popup) does get an Automatic Source Citation. I suspect the same problem applies to all other Note boxes on Facts, Citations, and other records.
