symbols/icons on my family tree

Post by sailor842 » 24 Aug 2020 16:20

Looking closer at my tree & at my wife's tree I find indications that I do not understand. Looking in the version 5 manual I cannot find an answer.

What are these little ovals supposed to represent & where can I find a discussion about them? thanks...jack

They indicate a couple that also appear elsewhere in your tree. Follow the "ribbon" from the oval and it will lead you to the other place they appear.

Yes, I see that. How do I remove/control them?

Sailor,
When viewing the diagram click on "diagram" on the top toolbar [or right click on the diagram itself].
Then select "options" at the bottom of the list presented.
then on the "general" tab untick the box "check for duplicates"

Those duplication coloured ribbons can be an indication of mistakes in your tree.
They indicate that there is inter-marriage between ancestral branches such as between cousins.
If you don't think you should have such relationships then just hiding the coloured ribbons is not the best solution.
