Exception Report

Post by erowland » 06 Jun 2020 17:28

Hi. When I log into FH the attached message is received. The message begins "This Gedcom file contains one or more sets of duplicate record ids----" The duplicate records run from 1 to 12. How do I resolve this problem. Edward

Edward, the message that you posted explains how to resolve the problem.

But beyond that, you have not given us many clues to work on!
Has this message suddenly arisen on a Project that was OK before?
Have you any explanation of how the GEDCOM file got into this state?
Is it a GEDCOM file that has come from some other product?

There are 9 types of record that could have Record Id 1 to 12, so which ones are you talking about?
Could you post the Exception Report please?

Would you be happy if those 12 duplicated records were simply deleted?

Thanks Mike
The problem has been ongoing since 2019.
I am not aware how the problem arose in the first place. Perhaps when I was having the problem with syncronising OneDrive last year.
Or when I arranged with MyHistory to prepare a chart for a section of my family in 2019
The Gedcom is what I have been using for several years.
The records in question pertain to myself, my wife, my three children, my parents, my wife's parents, my father's mother and my mother's mother.
If I deleted all 12 records I would require to re enter the data for each one.
I have copied below the Exception Report

Regards
Edward

So you have been stuck with this fault for months on end and not been able to use FH at all?
I cannot see how any of the things you mentioned would cause that type of corruption.

So after the Project opens and you check the Records Window what Individuals share the same Record Id?
Perhaps post a screenshot covering all the records with Record Id 1 to 12.

Have you any FH Full Backups of the Project taken in 2019 prior to the corruption?
Have you tried restoring from such a backup?
Use File > Backup/Restore > Restore Backup.
Or use File > Backup/Restore > Revert to Snapshot and choose a Snapshot Taken before the problem started.

Mike
Thank you for your response.
I have been using FH all along but having to cope with the dialog boxes appearing each time I open the project.
I attach screenshots of Records 1-12 (2 shots).
If necessary I will delete all the records 1-12 and re enter the data. I presume that if I revert to an earlier Full Backup taken in 2019, any data entered subsequently for records other than 1-12 would likewise have to be manually re entered

Edward, with such an extreme error message, I really cannot believe that you thought that continuing to add data for months would end well. You have even continued to edit those duplicated records!!!!!
So be prepared to have to re-enter all the data associated with those first 12 records.
If FH will let you, then use File > Backup/Restore > Full Backup so you can get back what you have now.

All I can suggest is that you work in the Records Window and merge pairs of Individuals with the same Record Id.
To make things easier it may be best to move the Updated column to next to the Record Id column.
i.e.
Select the ROWLAND, Edward John record with the latest Updated date-time stamp.
Use Edit > Merge/Compare Record and select another ROWLAND, Edward John record with same Record Id.
Ensure the record with latest Updated date-time stamp is highest in the right-hand list by using the up/down arrows.
Click OK and Merge the two records.

Keep repeating until only one record remains with that Record Id, then move on to the next Record Id.

I have never faced this problem before, so cannot guarantee this solution will work. Good Luck!

Mike You have given me cause to pause and reflect. My wayward ways did not end well. But I have learned from this experience.
I have re -entered the data associated with the 12 Records. I have done a Full Backup to the PC Hard Drive.
I am no longer getting the error message.
Again many thanks for your guidance and help

Regards
Edward
