Website Creation

Post by uktony » 10 Aug 2023 16:38

I have just updated my website from within FH7 (it's something I do twice a year...ish). All seems ok, except

Some of the sources have not been published. One in particular is reference to the 1921 census. It is there in my FH project.

I don't understand why it doesn't upload, nor can I see how to include it.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks

Please give us a few more clues/
When using the Publish > Websites & Family Tree CD/DVDs... what types of report are you choosing at Step 3?
Are the Options... chosen there the installation defaults or something else?

If you use the Publish menu to produce the same type of Report with the same Options... for the same person/couple is the problem Source included or not?

You say it doesn't upload, bit is it included in the web pages created by FH when viewed on your PC before upload?

Mike

Here is a screen shot of "sources" for the Family Group Sheet. That for the Individual Summary Report is the same.

I also attach an extract from an individual narrative report (showing 2 sources, although this, in itself, is deficient) and from the created website showing only one source.

I've just done a further check and my FH Website project does not include those sources, yet the principal project does. I must, therefore, be deleting them as part of the website creation, but I cannot see where. As I said earlier, it is not all the sources that have been excluded

This picture shows a complete set of sources for a different individual and also includes a source that has been omitted from the previous record

I do wonder if it something to do with the "making people private" settings but, beyond that, I am at a loss.

Any offerings of help or pointers would be appreciated.

You have not followed my instructions closely enough.

Use the Publish menu to produce EXACTLY the same Report as chosen in Publish > Websites & Family Tree CD/DVDs... Step 3.

If the website chooses an Individual Narrative Report then use the Publish > Narrative Reports > Individual Narrative command for the same Individual and double-check all the Report > Options settings are the same on all tabs including the Privacy tab.

Your two screenshots for "an individual narrative report (showing 2 sources...) and from the created website showing only one source" cannot be for EXACTLY the same Report because the text line above the Sources heading is different. So either the Individual or some other Options are different. Thus you are not comparing like for like.

Once you can produce the same Report via the Publish > reports command as is produced for the Website then we can investigate why some Sources are missing.

BTW: I've moved this thread to the Reports, Books & Website forum.

Mike

I followed more closely (I think!), your instructions. Aside from a difference in fonts and colours (which I can't see has any bearing on the output), everything seemed to match but some of the sources were still being omitted on the creation of the website.

As frustrating as it was, I decided to scrap everything and start again. This time, I used the Split Tree Helper to delete all living and private individuals. (Before this, I was using the "Clean Living Persons" plug-in and then marking all such individuals as "Private".) This has produced what I wanted and is actually cleaner and easier on the eye.

When I have a little more time, I will revisit my original process; it must have been an oversight on my part to achieve what I did.

Thanks for your help
