My problem is after backing up my project, I tried to add a picture to a person on the said file, my media file comes up
as usual with no problem when I click add media and insert from file, but instead of the media file coming up I get a box
in the subject box it says FAMILY HISTORIAN BACKUP FILES and I cant seem to change. I'm sorry if I'm being a bit thick
but its probably a simple fix but its got me stumped. Any help to solve the issue will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
steve

Re: Media
Hello Steve.
I think you are referring to the Windows File Explorer dialogue to select the Media file.
I guess it is showing the folder where you saved the Project Backup file, i.e. Family Historian Backup Files, which you presumably created specifically for saving backups.
You can use the pane on the left to navigate to wherever your Media files are located just as you would in File Explorer.
The reason the default folder has changed is that FH remembers the last folder you used for any purpose.
In this case, the last thing you did was save a Project Backup so FH remembers that folder.
After you have moved to your Media folder FH will remember that.

All the media is where its supposed to be until I click on add media and insert from file that's when things go wrong. I have backed up several times with no problems until now I will keep trying and see how get on.

Re: Media
After using Add Media > Insert from File... I imagine you are getting a dialogue like that shown below.
It is titled Insert pictures or other media top left and is a standard Windows File Explorer file selection window.
Use the navigation pane on the left to move to the folder where your Media files are located.
You may need to use the central scroll bar, etc, to locate that folder.
What is the full path & name of the folder where your Media are held?
If your dialogue is not like that shown below then please post a screenshot.

Re: Media
Yes, so as I said, use the lefthand pane to navigate to your Media folder. Maybe get your wife to show you how.
What is the full path & name of the folder where your Media are held?
Are they in the Pictures folder or the Downloads folder or perhaps the Photo Library folder in your screenshot?

Re: Media
Hi Mike
Usually when I add from the Media I click Add Media and it brings all the Media up within the programme but this is not happening..... The Media Files are there as I can view them but usually this automatically just pops up and I don't know why or understand why this is happening after the last backup .....
Sorry for all the hassle but this is really taxing me now..... I did wonder if I backed up from a previous back up if this would bring them back but then I will lose what I have added in the last week.....
I am his Wife but I'm useless with Computers and only understand what I have to use at work ..... anything out of the norm I'm lost..... This is the first time I have even looked at the programme....
Thanks for your patience and help ..... it really is much appreciated ......
Many thanks
Steve and Marianne .....

Re: Media
This particular problem is not really anything to do with FH.
It is knowing how to navigate around the Windows filing system using Windows File Explorer.
I can see that somebody has been very diligent in creating folders that are listed in that lefthand pane.
Who was that? How did you create them?
How would you usually open Windows File Explorer and find all those folders?
Use the central vertical scroll bar shown in the screenshots and drag it up & down to reveal even more folders.
What is the full path & name of the folder where your Media are held?
How would you find that folder outside FH to load it with photos, etc, before you use FH?
The reason the folder shown by FH changes is that FH remembers the last folder that you used in FH.
This time the last folder you used was the Project Backup folder.
After you have located and imported a file from your Media folder then FH will remember that until you use some other feature that needs another folder.
Once you have learnt how to navigate around in Windows File Explorer then I can give you some tips to make it easier to find popular folders. Learning this skill is fundamental to using your Windows PC efficiently.
Please answer all the questions I posted above as that will help me understand the depth of advice you need.
