I'd like to create a website and publish it just so I have access to my data when I haven't got my laptop with me. I used to use a host website (Tribal Pages) to do this and could set the privacy levels so only I had access to the data. I am currently using Ancestry to host my gedcom but it only allows me to read the first of many notes I have attached to key individuals in the tree.
If I use Family Historian to create a website and publish it to my free ISP's space, can I set privacy levels to protect all data? Will anyone using a search engine be able to access my data?

The privacy options will depend on what your particular ISP offers.
But free web space is unlikely to come with privacy options.
Remember though, that most of what you have researched, such as BMD Certificates, Census Returns, Parish Records, etc, is already in the public domain.
If you are concerned about specific private details or living people, then the Website Wizard Step 1 - Choose Privacy Options may exclude such data from the website.
A few techniques will make Google searches less like to succeed.
But free web space is unlikely to come with privacy options.

- Use an obscure folder name within the free web space to hold the FH tree.
- Do not create any hyperlinks from other web pages to your web pages in this obscure folder.

That is a great suggestion.
So in the Create a Website Wizard at Step 8: Final Details click the Advanced button.
Then in the ... at the end of the section: box enter That will place the meta name='robots' tag in every web page.
This should inhibit web robots (including Google) from indexing your web pages, but robots can ignore it.
Do a Google search for meta name=robots for lots of background information.
So in the Create a Website Wizard at Step 8: Final Details click the Advanced button.
Then in the ... at the end of the section: box enter

If you want to password protect the whole site you can do this with most ISPs using a .htaccess file. Set up varies from ISP to ISP, but if you check out the support on the ISP they should have instructions to protect folders.
