Add a GRO Event to an Individual

Post by rodders » 04 May 2012 00:07

Hi All
I've modified Jane's Add GRO Source plugin (with Jane's permission) to record the GRO 'source' data (Registration District and Reference Information) in the Event Note field, rather than creating a Source for it and recording the District in the Event Place field.
This works fine for my own purposes, but I'm soliciting interest from the wider audience to see if it's worth uploading to the PlugIn Repository.

OK I'll do that later on today. I'm a newbie when it comes to plugins, so critique would be appreciated:)

I've submitted the PlugIn to FH for approval. Sorry for the delay, domestic duties intervened!
I was going to post it here for testing, but can't see the mechanism :(

The mechanism for testing WiP Plugins is via the Knowledge Base at Work in Progress Plugins.

Done that already, even logged in to the wiki still says not enough rights to upload files

So you can Login to the Wiki and you see the Edit buttons and Edit this page links, but the Media Files Manager will not allow Upload.

In that case E-mail Jane at [url]mailto:janetaubman@gmail.com[/url] and ask her to check your access rights.

I have added a page for your Plugin
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/wiki/doku.p ... _no_source

You might like to change the name so that it's more obvious how it differers from my version.

Also I see it does not add if the note exists, so you might want to modify it to warn that it's not done anything, or offer to append the text using a fhMessageBox prompt or similar.

Add a GRO Event to an Individual

Hi All
Version 1.0.1 of the PlugIn is now in the Plugin WIP area. This new version updates more imprecise dates (e.g. approximate and calculated dates) with the Quarter Date, but leaves Absolute Dates alone. It also appends the Registration Data to the Note Field if the Note Field is already populated.
Thanks for the critique Jane.[cool]

Version 1.0.2 of the Plugin is now in the Plugin WIP area. It deals with the case where the Date field is populated with a year only (eg 1847) - this is now replaced with the Quarter Date.[smile]

Version 1.0.3 has now been released to correct my over-enthusiastic pruning of the code in the previous release - only visible if you add a marriage fact [oops]
