No, because it's not there.

A spell checker has been on the wish list for ages, but it does not have that many votes.

You could write your notes in a word processor, spell check then copy and paste.

Spell Checker

Yes, it is a bit unfair to expect an international product like FH, that supports family history records for many countries, to have a spell checker to support all the languages of all those countries!!!!

Use a word-processor spell checker with a customised dictionary for your line of research, language, place names, etc.

Spell Checker

I've already voted for the spell checker on the wish list. Personally, I don't think it's an unreasonable request. Trying to spell check a native gedcom file is virtually impossible because of the way lines of text get split, and I simply disagree with the premise that I should prepare my notes in one program only then to have to cut and paste them into another, even if I do have the luxury of two huge 27' monitors. It wouldn't be so bad if the formatting was preserved, but it isn't. Let's be brutally honest, FH's text entry, manipulation, and presentation is positively stone age, and the absence of any improvements in the current release is for me a major disappointment. One can't help but wonder if the slavish adherence to GEDCOM is starting to affect the ability of FH to serve the needs of a wider audience who are not just interested in bloodlines, but also their family history.

That said, I think it's still probably the best program of it's kind on the market today, and if there's a new version at some point I'll probably upgrade.

[rolleyes] Off to get my hard hat ......
