I have been working with a lot of source images from Ancestry, and wanted a quick way to rename them and add them to FH along with a new source in many cases.
I have built a plugin which allows you to drag and drop media files on to it and it will rename and add them to your Project along with a source if you want and then once the plugin is closed return a list of all the records added so you can work on them.
You can download it below, right click and select Save As if your browser opens the file rather than downloading it.

Please let me know if you think it's worth adding to the plugin store.

Yes, as long as you want to add it as media it will work.
Ancestry was just what caused me to write it. So as long as the file is on your PC you can add it.

Really good plugin Jane even works with pdf files.
One query, is it possible to write your own source? You press Create Matching Source and you get a source added with a number at the beginning O5634 where does this come from? Source Type drop down is blank. Keep up great work.

Quick Add Media and Source
Jane,
A couple of comments and thoughts.
First of all, a very cool plugin. The drag and drop feature is really fantastic.
My files often have a dash (-) character in them. This doesn't get carried over to the description properly.
In the Source Type drop down list, the last entry has '(Only required when creating a source)' next to it. Any way this could be on the next line instead?
Any way to allow us to put the file into a subfolder of the media folder? I don't store any media in the actual media folder itself.
I would second the idea of letting us name the file in the media folder with nothing added to the beginning of the file name and no underscores (_) between words in the name.
I tried it and it created a source and a multi media object. However, when I go to the source and select the multimedia tab, the media is not attached to the source. It is a broken link. Also, the link doesn't show in Tools > Work With External File Links unless I just missed it. Did I do something wrong?
Thanks,
Bill

Ok, I deliberately remove - _ and add spaces to get a good description field and rename the sources, mainly as if you download them from Ancestry they have stupid names, I could probably make the rename an option, the prefix is the media source id.
There is a drop down already to select the sub-folder in media, is it not working for you?
There is a bug in FH which means media added don't show properly until the file is re-loaded could you confirm what is in the link and if it remains broken on a re-load.

Jane,
Thanks,

Ideally we would have complete control over both the name of the source and the name of the multi-media object. I always try to set mine to be the same name.Ok, I deliberately remove - _ and add spaces to get a good description field and rename the sources, mainly as if you download them from Ancestry they have stupid names, I could probably make the rename an option, the prefix is the media source id.
No... it works fine. I just missed it the first time. [oops]There is a drop down already to select the sub-folder in media, is it not working for you?
I restarted FH and it shows up fine. There is a bug in FH which means media added don't show properly until the file is re-loaded could you confirm what is in the link and if it remains broken on a re-load.
