My long-suffering other half is coming with me to Kettering, where I'm going to be installing myself in the Records Office for a couple of days. She likes to get out and 'do' things - anything, so has offered to look around graveyards for headstones and memorials for me (I suppose it's her penance for getting me into this).

I'm trying to produce a list of people likely to be in a given burial area, and started the process by setting up (an almost certainly over-elaborate) query to get only the side of the family I want into a list with death dates, etc. Once I have this list, I'll do some sorting in Excel to produce the lists for her (sorting by graveyard first, the alphabetical, etc). Is there a way to do these sorts within queries, rather than doing it in Excel? Or is there a better way to achieve it?

Excel is a fine way to do it - but I'll have to do it each time I want to do this. If there's a way I can make it automatic, I can save myself time (which means more time to deal with the pictures that get produced...)

In a Query on the Columns tab there is an option on each Column to Sort but it defaults to None.
At the bottom of the window set Sort to either Ascending or Descending as required.

The Columns nearest the left have the highest precedence for sorting.
If you want a different display order than sort precedence, then duplicate Columns and make the ones with Sort criteria also Hidden.

As an aside to this what records are available at the Kettering record office? The County Record office for the county is in Northampton. Does Kettering contain similar records?

You are quite right Peter - we're going to Kettering (because that's where everyone's from, and I've never been there), but I'll be going to the Records Office in Northampton.

I blame spending the day in front of family history typing in 'Kettering' for addling my brain!
