I have been working in the background with a couple of other FH and TNG users on a Plugin to Export Gedcom to TNG format.

It currently performs a number of tasks.

• Converts _ATTR _USED _EMAIL _WEB _PHON tags to TNG compatible tags.
• Removes FH user-defined _UID _ROOT _LIST tags and also FILE tag.
• Optionally converts characters not in the TNG default ISO-8859-1 character set.
• Optionally converts characters to alternative TNG  UTF-8 encoding either with or without BOM but this needs the GnuWin32 iconv.exe to be installed.

I am also aware of two other TNG related threads:
(1) Gedcom Census with TNG - Help that says CENS must be set to Accept.
(2) FH 4 & TNG that advises using the RJT Converter for images, and I wonder if the Plugin could take over this task too.

Are there any other conversions that users have found necessary to work with TNG?

I have a plugin you might also want to look at that does what RJT converter does with media, to cut out and convert the media to create the thumbnails.

It also works to prep a file for use in Legacy etc.

BTW: I have found solutions to some problems with that Plugin and posted them at Convert File Links error message

I think the way forward is for my Export Gedcom to TNG Plugin to advise users to run your Convert File Links Plugin first, and then run the Export Gedcom to TNG Plugin on the resulting GEDCOM.

The Export Gedcom to TNG Plugin Version 1.3 has been added to the Plugin Store after testing by a couple of The Next Generation users.

It currently performs a number of tasks:

• Converts _ATTR _USED _EMAIL _WEB _PHON tags to TNG compatible tags.
• Removes FH user-defined _VAR _UID _ROOT _LIST tags and also FILE tag.
• Optionally converts characters not in the TNG Default ISO-8859-1 character set.
• Optionally converts characters to alternative TNG UTF-8 with BOM encoding.

The Plugin now does NOT require GnuWin32 iconv.exe to be installed.

An initial Tag Replacement table can be easily edited by users to alter the Tag replacements if required.

It also advises the prior use of the Convert File Links Plugin if Media Link to Face Frames need to be retained.

The Export Gedcom to TNG Plugin Version 1.4 will soon be added to the Plugin Store.

It allows the TNG Gedcom Output Folder to be selected.

It also removes the FH user-defined _SENTence tags.
