PULEEZE Simon,

Those of us stateside are already in suspense waiting the release of the 1940 U.S. Census - UNINDEXED!!!

Add to that the prospect of adapting to new features in FH 5 - we are all heading for a nervous breakdown.

Spare us additional 'freak out' time and let us know the release date at least.

[tongue][smile]

And, being slightly geeky, has it been written to take all the changes Windows 8 will introduce into account? In many ways, FH seems like the ideal Metro-style application.

I hope that doesn't mean it won't work with Windows XP!

Well - if you plan to upgrade to version 5 you could also push the boat out and upgrade to windows 8 as well. Windows XP is what my ancestors used to use........ :-)

As my computer is an iMac the only reason I run Windows is so that I can use FH and AS! Not incentive enough to upgrade from XP, I'm afraid.

I can't imagine there'll be a Windows 8 Metro version of FH for a few years, if ever. The Windows 8 desktop mode will run Windows 7 software anyway so Family Historian 5 will run happily on Windows 8. The Metro interface is designed for use on tablet computers or at least touch screens and certainly Family Historian (and my own AS for that matter) would need a lot of work to make it touch friendly.

Having worked in the software industry for many years, I can confirm that Gerry is spot on. We (I won't say who 'we' were) never released anything until the last possible moment - there were always a few more things we wanted to test, to tweak, to fix...

This happened last time there was a new version. Announced just before Christmas for February release and then kept being put back.

No idea why they can't just work on the product until ready and then announce it, but probably a marketing process to increase sales before Christmas with an upgrade offer.

Best to put it out of your mind and keep using Version 4 which is more than adequate for most people's needs.

Jane, you do realise by posting something like that, lots of people are now either cursing you or checking all over the web to find out when! [eek]

I'd imagine many people will go for the download only versions so hopefully all will be OK with supply.

I'm happy to wait till the end of March for V5, but I had hoped, as Simon said, that there'd be more detail of the new features in the weeks before. I don't suppose there's any chance of whetting our appetites?!

As Simon says, that's a summary, and apparently there's more, hence my request for more detail.

Intersting, the My History banner at the top of the page is now advertising V5 and they are taking orders for V5 (but no release date given). But no sign of it on the official website yet.

Back to waiting patiently...

I don't think that they've finished updating their website yet as some of the headings still refer to version 4. I've ordered the update and that won't be in until Wednesday or Thursday.

The FH website is still showing version 4.

Margaret.
