Problem with Skype

Post by Dagwood » 29 Feb 2012 12:04

Sorry to raise something entirely unrelated to FH but my brother has a problem with Skype and I cannot resolve it.
I access Skype using an icon on the taskbar without problem; my brother who is partailly sighted has lost the icon and has to login which takes him to the acccount page. For some reason there does not appear to be any way of getting from there to the main user page ie the one with contacts etc. I have tried to repeat what he is doing ( I'm even using his logon id and password so I know it's his account) but get the same result.
I'm sure there are other Skype users in our community so would appreciate anyone advising me on how one moves from one page to the other.
Dagwood
ps I've tried contacting Skype support but without success.

Problem with Skype

There's not quite enough information to make more than an educated guess. When you say 'you have to log on', how do you get to a page asking for username & password? Are you using a web browser for that?

Anyway, here goes with a first guess. Try
Start>All Programs>Skype>Skype
That should start the Skype program rather than the online account login. If the settings (Tools>Options) are set to login automatically, that should confirm that the program is still there and functioning. If that does work (possibly having to log on *in Skype*, then go find the Skype program from the Start button but *right* click on it and choose Pin to Taskbar or similar. You may need to press Alt+1 to see the contacts list.
If the Skype problem has gone AWOL, you've a download and reinstall on your hands.

Problem with Skype

Hi Bob, I relayed your suggestions to my sister-in-law and it seems to have resolved the problem on my brother's PC . He now has the icon he can click on and it has bypassed the log on routine and subsequent problem.
MANY THANKS
DAGWOOD
ps It's so easy to forget at times the problems that partially sighted people have with modern technology.

pps A very big welcome to the forum. I just noticed it's your first post!
