'Out of Memory' messages in FH
Over the last couple of days I've seen 'out of memory' and 'low on memory' messages when using diagrams on FH.
A few images are replaced with crosses even though the file paths are correct. When I 'View All Media' some 12 or so images out of a total 375 images seem unable to load.
When I try to enlarge some individual images the memory warnings appear! Other images seem to enlarge without warning messages. The program has also lately started to run slowly.
I have masses of hard disc memory left of the 6 GB available RAM space, I have a 64 bit operating system and am using Windows 7. I have FH version 4.1.
I am also sure that my FH data is tiny compared to other FH users.
I presume its a processing problem (virtual memory?) with my computer rather than an issue with FH. However it is only when I am using FH that I am aware of this memory problem.
Help please!

Hard disk memory and Ram are different things, but if you have 6Gb of ram then I would be surprised if you are running out purely because of that.
Take a look at the size of the images which you are having problems with as you may have inadvertently scanned a few very large, I have been known to scan certificates as 1200 dpi which results in huge files for a A4 item.
Is there any pattern to the images which are causing problems? eg all png or tiff format?
Check your anti-virus is not trying to scan your media folder and try excluding the media folder from the real time scanning (this can also help performance if your antivirus likes to scan image files on access).

Thanks Jane
I have looked at the saved images and none seems too huge - in fact total images take up 241MB. Largest image is 6MB alone.
There does not seem to be any link with the file type. Some jpgs are not displaying but most of them are.
I have switched off my antivirus and operated FH but I am still seeing crossed images and memory messages such as 'unable to load object. Out of memory.'
I've looked at Windows task manager and during creation of an 'everyone' diagram, FH is using 2GB physical memory. Total usage of all processes is 3GB.
Stuck!! Any other ideas please.

Have you checked the External File Links Tool? Are there any errors showing there?

If you open the 12 'problem' images in another program what size are they in pixels?
It's worth remembering that jpg's grow when they are un-compressed in memory and that as a 32bit program FH is limited in the amount of memory it can use. I think memory management for images in diagrams in V5 has been improved, as my everyone tree takes 800Mb in V4 and 150Mb in V5.
I can't see much difference on the media window memory wise, but my Media window for 480 attached images is only around 34Mb.
Can you confirm you are running V4.1.3 by checking on the Help>About option

Two pairs of photos (linked) don't want to appear in the 'everyone' diagram.

If the last two, do they open in the media window?
Also if you export just a few records with the problem images, and open that do they appear correctly?

Exporting takes me out of my comfort zone I'm afraid! - but hope this further information helps.
If I go back to my 5x Grandfather using Focus Window > Media > View Media for Selected Records then I can see the images (which have been troublesome) in the Multimedia Window and I can magnify them extensively, without complication.
If I then open a Descendant Diagram (this diagram has 435 boxes) I can see all images. I am able to randomly select individuals > Multimedia > Edit and I can enlarge the images to 200% without problem and without any warning messages!
When I view 'All Media' I can see everything as it should be! Again I can view each image to 200%.
But...... if I go back one generation to my 6x Grandfather
(I only have four individuals beyond my 5x Grandfather) and look at the descendent diagram from him then I get the problems with images.
Seven of the images now have crosses! ( this diagram has 474 boxes).
None of those four additional individuals has an image attached.
My 6x Grandfather has four sets of 'Local Notes' showing in his box( some 30 lines)

I suspect although with out your data I can't prove it, that the changes in V5 will probably fix the memory problem.
