Is it possible to take one section of my tree and save it on its own. I know that I can start a new file and put all the information in but I was hoping that there might be an easier way of doing it.

Yes, there are two options, but ensure you understand the way they work before experimenting on your master GEDCOM data.
Always work on a copy to start with, or be absolutely sure you have good backups.
Use either File > Split Tree Helper or File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File.
Both have options for selecting what you want to keep/discard.
