V5 will introduce plugins, and the already released information suggests mapping may be available as a plugin, so I suspect you should be able to write a KML file if you want to using a plugin.

I would like to be able to export a excel spreadsheet listing
Person
Record Number
Event together with date, address and place.
From this I can convert to KML for inputting into google earth.
Can I do this now or do I have to wait for V5.
Thanks

Yes you can do that now, just create a query with the columns you want and then use the Save As CSV to give you a file to open in Excel.
You would be best with a Fact Query as a starting point.
