Adding Time and Weekday of Event

Post by ghelon » 10 Dec 2011 14:24

Is it possible to add the time and weekday of an event to a person's record so that in Reports you will see something like: 'John Doe was born at 5.30am on Tuesday 23 November 1953'. Thanks.

Yes, but it requires some changes to the default Fact sentence Templates.

You cannot add a time to the Date field, so you must choose another field.
There are two options:
(1) Use the Note field, which is easy to access, but you want to reserve for other uses.
(2) Use the Cause field, which is only on the All tab, but rarely used (except in Death events).

Use Tools > Work with Facts Sets select the Birth event and click Properties button.
Change the sentence Template as follows:
From {individual} was born {date} {place}
To   {individual} was born {date} {place}

If you prefer the Note field then use {note} instead of {cause}.
The parts of the template within are omitted if the associated field has no value.
Remember that the {date} will always be prefixed with on or in, hence the wording on a in the weekday phrase.

You can perform similar changes for other events where required.

Because this changes the Standard Fact Set it is important to preserve the alterations.
Otherwise, if you ever need to re-install FH the changes will be lost.
The file to copy/backup is in
