Hi
I have just purchased Family Historian 4 having used Family Tree Maker for a few years. I had a few issues with FTM so decided after a recommendation from someone that I would try FH4. One thing I could do with FTM that I did like was to find relatives by place I have found this really useful. I have only had FH for a week now so perhaps should wait, but I don't want to make too many changes if I can't master some of the elements I really like.

Can anyone help, I'm not used to the queries format

Thanks

Helene

If you just want to see all the records related to a selected place, just use the Tools>Work With Data>Places select the place and click on Records to get a list of all the linked records.

If you want to do more detailed searching why not download the Pin point by location query and see if that suits your needs.

Thanks very much for that, I have downloaded the Chapman code but don't know how to utilise it. I don't know where the download has gone sorry.

An example of how I had thought I could use it is I know I have relatives who lived in and around Bowburn and an Aunt wants to go and see where they were. I know in 1911 my relative lived in Bowburn and I have put the full address for the 1911 census. So I would love to be able to put in a query for *Bowburn* and get anything about Bowburn.

Hope you can help again

thanks

Helene

If you downloaded and ran (or double clicked) the query it will have been installed to View>Custom Queries and you can run it from there.

To get a better understanding of Queries, I would recommend reviewing Chapters 13 and 14 of the book.

You say 'I would love to be able to put in a query for *Bowburn* and get anything about Bowburn'.
FH will only tell you about data you have entered into FH.
If you want more general information just enter Bowburn or the 1911 Address into a search engine such as Google.

In FH, the Standard Query Contains Text can be used to list all Individual records where there is any mention at all of the specified text, e.g. 'bowburn'.  This would include cases where 'bowburn' was mentioned in a Note, as well as cases where 'Bowburn' was entered as a Place.

Something that I do (really simple for simple me!!) is .....

in the Records Window click at the top of the column called birth place. The entries will be re-ordered alphabetically so you can pick out all those born in a particular place.
