FH 5
Personally, since I may have to transfer to a new PC, I will probably decide to stump up for the full version of FHv5 in order to avoid the hassle of having to install all the earlier versions first, as well as having to transfer all my data, linked files, and settings.

is there an actual release date known yet? and a price?

I'm wondering whether it's time to make the break. Upgrading from scratch to Version 5 would mean having to mount four disks in succession to go from Version 2 to 5, with three different upgrade codes in succession. Given that I've so far failed to get Version 4 to install on my new laptop using the same activation code and installation file that worked on the previous machine, I question whether I want to go through the increasing pain every time I upgrade machines. Calico Pie are the only one among the various software suppliers I buy from who transfer the whole pain of keeping track of the upgrade path to the customer. I have software with a purchase history going back 20 years that upgrades simply and without problem; in comparative terms, FH is a pain. If Calico Pie can't be bothered to keep a record of what they have sold me, so that they can sell me an installation file that works out of the box, I'm not sure if I can be bothered to pay good money to do their work for them.

Firstly you say: 'Given that I've so far failed to get Version 4 to install on my new laptop using the same activation code and installation file that worked on the previous machine'. Have you ever contacted Calico Pie about this? From what I've heard they seem to be very helpful in these circumstances.
Secondly, whilst agreeing it is a pain to go through the upgrade path, in the scheme of things is this really such a big issue that you would change your software? There are surely more important considerations than this, such as how well it handles your family history!

I started with the original version 2.0.7 of FH and have bought upgrade discs right through to the current version. So I have 3 CDs, the original [2.0.7] and two upgrades [3 & 4]. The original did not need a registration code but the two upgrades did. I have not found it too difficult to retain all 3 CDs and the two registration codes. I do not look to anyone else to do this for me.
I am not sure how Calico Pie could keep a record of all of the FH CDs that I have bought as I bought them via a retailer and I would not expect that retailer to divulge my details to anyone.
