Does anyone know if you can save a diagram with a transparent background, as opposed to a coloured one, so that it can be opened and edited in Photoshop? I have tried various 'save as' including .psd and Photoshop only sees it as one merged layer.

I don't think you can, but what should work is save a diagram in png with an 'odd coloured' background and then open and resave it in IrfanView selecting the transparent colour to get a transparent png.
Or just use the magic selector tool in PS once you have converted it to a layer.

Thanks Jane for your prompt response as always, it's much appreciated!
Your method worked quite well, but did leave ghosting round the letters, so choice of background colour had to be considered.
However, I did discover that if I saved the diagram as a PDF in FH, then opened it in Photoshop it was transparent! Then all I had to do was duplicate the layer into an A4 sized document.

Interesting! I just tried that having read your last post and got the same but with no lines connecting boxes. I'll try again later.

My lines came out grey instead of black, so weren't as obvious. I haven't yet tried to change the colour!

Try adjusting the line thickness.
Use Diagram > Options > Lines tab and change both Lines options from hairline to 1 pt or thicker.
