I have added some pictures to my FH only to find when I recover my backup all the pictures are replaces with a white box with a diagonal cross your help would be appreciated Regards

By 'backup' I assume you mean the .zip files created by the FH Backup options.
These files are only a backup of the GEDCOM .ged file database.
The pictures are stored separately, and must be backed-up separately.
If you are using the FH V4 project structure, then the picture files are usually stored in the Project Media sub-folder.
In this case you can use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Copy Project to copy the entire project to your backup device.
While talking about backups, you may wish to backup other folders and files associated with FH settings, etc.
