6x4 cards for indexes

Post by aragorn » 07 Oct 2004 17:15

I recently read an article about keeping Family Records on different computer formats and how some information is now virtually inaccessible because it was originally stored on a format no longer in general use,i.e.5 inch floppies etc. I have always been aware of this and have kept my records in a 6x4 card index. Is it possible to have a report that can be printed easily straight onto cards so it can be kept up to date.I have tried manipulating the reports to fit the card but I can't get it to fit properly.I also want to be able to put the record number on the title with the name etc.
My card index has proved invaluable in the past when my computer crashed an I lost over 200 names.[grin]

I did a layout for someone a while ago for 6x4 cards. If you are still having a problem, then if you detail what you want on the cards I will set one up for you and post it to the downloads.

Hi there

Dear Jane
This is the sort of information I think I need.If the ID number could also be next to all the individuals that would be great. If any other stuff could be fitted in that would be really great. (or am I asking for too much?)

There you go, you will need to configure your printer to 6x4 card, once you open report by using the printer set up button.

Also I noticed people with lots of events or lots of children may go over two pages. Dependant on your eyesight you may be able to take the font down a little to fit more per card.

Hello, this is my first post here. I am still learning how to use FH. The link above looks useful, but when I click on it I just get a page full of text! Am I doing something wrong?

Glenda make sure you have at least version 2.2 of Family Historian.

If not you will need to right click on the link and use the save as option to get it down to your computer and then copy it to the
c:program filesFamily HistorianReportsCustom Reports
directory

You may find it easier to download and install the 2.3 upgrade first and then download the report. Then click on the link and save the document to your desktop and double click it so Family historian installs it in the right place for you.

This looks like a very good idea! I have not long started researching my family and was thinking of keeping a quick reference hard copy of my findings.
All the very best,
Fulhamster.

I'm using xp home, and have fh 2.3 installed.  I have downloaded the file to my desktop but cannot install it.  I'm using firefox as my browser but i feel that shouldn't be a problem.  I checked to see if there was a folder in the program for custom reports and as there was none I've created on but still I can't see the report - any ideas?
