I am trying to back up onto a Memory Stick. On other folders on my PC I go into 'File' and 'save as' and I can save to the memory stick - but with Family Historian the 'file' Tab doesen't have a 'SAVE AS'. Any Ideas?

If you are using V4 Projects then use File > Project Window > More Tasks > Copy Project which will copy the entire Project Folder.
This will include Multimedia and all other files in the folder, which is one of the beneficial features of Projects.
If you are using V3 style standalone GEDCOM then use File > Gedcom File Tasks > Save a Gedcom File Copy but note that this only saves the .ged file and not any linked multimedia image/photo files.
Alternatively, you could use Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) to copy all your files to USB Memory Stick.
However, the Multimedia file links will be incorrect on the Memory Stick until you restore everything back where it came from.

Thanks for you quick reply. I have followed your guide but my 'Copy Project' is not hi-lighted. What have I done wrong?

You need to select (click on) the Project you want to copy from the list.

Thanks for your replies. I managed to get to click 'copy project' and it comes up 'Before you can perform this Task, all open projects or files must be closed. Do you wish to close the current project/file now?'
I click 'OK'
It then comes up Copy Project etc
I click 'copy'
It then comes up 'please modify the copy name'
In trying to do that I have ended with four names for the same project. The message then comes up that it cannot 'find' the Memory Stick even though I have installed it in the USB and found it on the appropriate drive.
I'm afraid to delete any of the four project names as when I thought of doing this it warned me I could delete the lot - and where does any deletion on Family Historian go - they don't seem to go into my recycle bin?
I have given up this exercise as I have somehow altered the initial appearance of Family Historian on my screen when I open it from the short cut on my desk top - and I have now found I can save it to my Portable Hard Drive much easier! How about having a 'Save As...' on the file tab in future update?
Thanks for all your kind attention and patience with this computer incompetent.[confused]

I forgot to mention that there is a known problem with FH saving to a USB Memory Stick.
It currently cannot save directly to the drive letter.
There must be at least one root folder created on the USB Memory Stick to which the Project can be copied.
I checked the deletion of a Project and it did go into my Recycle Bin under a folder with the name of the Project.
There is a Wish List item for better Backup options that my be fulfilled in due course.

I just drag and drop the whole Family Historian Projects folder from My Documents onto my memory stick, window to window. Seems to work OK.

Hi Anne East,
I know its taken me a while to get around to your suggestion of downloading from 'My Documents' but thank you : it's seems to have worked although it didn't down load the pictures but that doesn't worry me as I have these all saved on another backup. Thanks again for you interest and help.[smile]
