* Orphans

I recently ran a Standard query 'Orphans'
I was amazed to find so many in my database and duly investigated.
According to help menu an orphan is someone who has not been linked to 3 other persons.
In many of 'my orphans' they are linked by birth to a father and mother and other reports show as such
How do I prevent these orphans showing as my inclination is an orphan is/was without parents.
I have checked the relationships and they do show an orphan with a mother and father.
I see you can add a relationship a,b,etc...what is the point of this with birth if you have linked a child to its 2 parents??
Is there a query which can be run to show the relationship settings ( ie a b, etc) of all persons in database?

I presume you mean the Search for Orphans query, if you read the introduction for that you will find it actually shows people in their 'pools'

If you want to search for people with no mother or father simply create a new query
Add if Father (%INDI.~FATH[1]>%) is null
Exclude unless Mother (%INDI.~MOTH[1]>%) is null


The purpose of the relationship against children is to show partial/non blood relationships such as adoption, step families etc.

Yes I did read about pools.
What is the point then of the Orphans query ??
I thought it would return a result of children with either no parents or only one parent.
To write a new query as suggested what rows and what columns are required please

The term 'Orphan' can have many meanings. The genealogical one, whicj is the one you are referring to, is a child that has lost it's parents. The FH query is using the 'Publishing' meaning, that is to say, Persons who are not linked to others in your tree. In the query results window you will see a pool number. The root person and all connected to them are in pool 1. Any one else connected to each other, but not to the root, would be in pool 2, 3 etc.
In publishing there are 'Orphans and widows'. These are lines of text that are out of place, like a heading on it's own at the bottom of a page (Widow) and the correspondg text without the heading (Orphan) at the top of the next page.

I have already given you the two rows, to show people with no listed parents.

The columns would be dependant on what you want to see on the report.
