Splitting a Tree

Post by scpitman » 15 Nov 2011 12:28

I too struggle with splitting my tree.  I have read all documentation & watched animated procedure but must be more dim than I thought.
I want to remove all relatives of my wife except myself and our children (there's prob about 100 of them) so I can send the rest of the tree to a cousin of mine who has no interest in my wife's rellies.
I've tried all options but always loose too many (including wife & our children!) or not enough (her auts & uncles etc get left behind).
Suggestions very welcome please.

For a number of years now I have used a diagram based way of spliiting off part of my tree. Robin Price did the details of it and I am always confident about using it .... dim as I am!

One small update to that article:
In the first step it says 'Press File, then Save As…'.
Since FH V4 this should now say:
'If using a V4 Project structure, choose File > Project Window... select your Project, then press More Tasks... > Copy Project...
If using a V3 style standalone Gedcom, choose File > Gedcom File Tasks > Save a Gedcom File Copy...'

Always perform your tree split on this copy.
