installation problems

Post by garsty » 28 Sep 2004 22:09

Trying to install on windows xp. Will not install. Get the message

C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

This is brand new software purchased today. Very frustrating!!

The most likely problem is a damaged CD.

I would suggest asking your supplier for a replacement disk.

Have only just seen this post. Do know what the problem is as have seen it before. Is not a damaged CD or should not be. According to Microsoft is because the autoexec.nt file is missing or damaged.
fix by doing

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:i386autoexec.nt_ c:windowssystem32autoexec.nt

and also see

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;324767

for complete article on this error.

I have just had an almost identical problem trying to install v 2.1.8 (which is incidently the version Amazon are currently shipping). None of the Microsoft articles helped but copying a copy of autoexec.nt and config.nt from the directory C:windowsrepair to C:windowssystem32 did the trick. Good luck if not already resolved.
