two screens amp; A S

Post by archierex » 20 Aug 2011 19:17

Just finished loading and transferring census data to FH.

First I would like to thank everyone involved in the venture concerning ancestral data sources and the interface operations for some sterling work that is much appreciated by this person who has struggled over the years to write in all the information arising from certificates, census etc.

I was happy also that I have a two screen system using 'Display Fusion' that allows screen fitting for different size screens and instant switching from one screen to another plus transferring the actual screens.
I use two screens all the time and AS fits in really well with reading data from a census page and reading it in to the AS form.

Thanks again

Thanks for your kind remarks and I'm glad you've found it so useful. I'm slowly making progress with the next version. If you've not already done so and can afford to do it, please consider making a donation (see Help menu in Ancestral Sources).

Best wishes

Nick

The pleasure is all mine!

I will certainly send you a token of my appreciation as you suggested and add Amazon UK.
On the last point I will also try and add Amazon FR which is my basic source for computer purchases but that may take time!
One little question, about automatic selection of data, and that concerns the ascendancy of official proof.
Simply, does the information on a BIRTH certificate amend or replace a birth date from a census, marriage or other legal document.
All my data has been updated from birth certificates wherever possible using the FH date table entry qualifying each according to 'calculation; estimated, etc. but census dates have been treated as suspect!

Again, thanks

Birth certificate sources will not appear until a future version, but as is the case with census and baptisms, it will be possible to replace existing birth details or (as some people prefer), record a second (or third, etc.) birth fact for the individual.

Thank you Nick, that sounds reasonable.

I have particular problems with my tree as it has become international with different systems for each country concerning official record keeping and laws on heritage.
This makes me careful not to give any weight to some circumstances that might give the impression of coming from an official document unless I have a copy of the document myself.
I have just completed, a tree keeps on growing so completion is an impossiblity, a branch for the Pays Basque. This has been built on family memories and selections from documents but I do not have any real written proof. What I would have liked was the ability to clarify (within the abbreviated data forms) the offical standing of a statement. Something like a crown motif for a statement of date or fact that I would have the document to hand as proof.
In the UK we are lucky to have a centralised system.

I will try and work out something for myself as an interim until the publication of your BMD stages.

All the very best
