Sub-menu with ‘Add Associated/Alias’ usage.

Post by TimM » 19 Sep 2004 15:55

If you right click on a name in the records window (or in the 'All' tab of the Property Dialog), you get a menu:- if the option ‘Add Miscellaneous’ is then selected, a further sub-menu is presented which starts with ‘Add Submitter’ and finishes with ‘LDS’.
There doesn’t seem to be anything telling you about these.
I’m particularly interested to know how/when to use the ‘Add Associated Person’ and ‘Add Alias’ options.
Could you please clarify the usage of this sub-menu, in particular the ‘Add Associated/Alias’.

As far as I know both of these features are available to provide full GedCom compatibility.

I tend to use FH's ability to give multiple name records to a person to handle the Alias side.

I have used the associated persons, in a couple of places, one is for single sex partnerships (which GedCom 5.5 does not support directly) and for persons not related directly, eg a housekeeper for a family or a farm labourer, employed by a farmer.
