Christening or Baptism?

Post by aragorn » 11 Sep 2004 13:27

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Christening and a Baptism?
I am trying to 'tidy up' some of my FH columns and in different sources the same individual can be both christened and baptised but are they really the same thing or is there a subtle difference?[confused]

Christening or Baptism?

This was discussed on the Mailing list a while ago in great detail.

To review the thread, click on Mailing List on the menu to the left and search for 'Christening' , you can then review all the comments posted on the subject.

Personally I put them all as Baptisums. I used a text editor to do a search and replace and changed the type of all the Christening events to Baptisums.

How do I find a text editor and how do I use it?

Using a text editor such as textpad (link in the links section), or PSPad

Make sure FH is not running and you have a safe copy of your file.
Open your GEDCOM file using the text editor.

Do a global search a replace
1 CHR
with
1 BAPM

In Textpad using regular expressions you can say
n1 CHR
with
n1 BAPM

which will replace the lines only where they start on at the beginning of a line.
