Borders around diagrams/charts

Post by Briand » 18 Jul 2011 10:38

Hi, I know there was a recent message thread a little while ago about customising borders around diagrams, but I'm afraid I couldn't find it again.

My query is about putting a fancier border around a diagram or chart. I can see how to insert a box around the tree, and there are basic formatting options to have the box line as a solid or dotted line, and of various thicknesses and colours. But is there any way of inserting or importing a fancier border - a little in the way that one can add a range of page borders in MS Word, for example, - or even more?

Many thanks.

You can't import graphics as borders, but you can do shadows and stepped corners, which can be combined, with the box colours to give a fancy effect.

Try a few of the Presets via the button at the bottom of the Box tab to see a few possibilities.

Hi Jane; thanks for that. I may be missing something here, but I can see how what you suggest will allow customising the boxes for the individual people on the tree (and I have been doing that). But I can't see how that method can be applied to the border around the whole chart. What I have done is to use Insert/Rectangle command to make a box around the tree, and I can then play with the line style and colour to a limited extent, but no more.

Oh, I see what you mean. I thought you meant on the boxes.

What you can do is make a 'picture' in another program with the borders you want (or a background) and add it in and move it to the back.

Something like this:

That's exactly what I had in mind! I'll give it a whirl.

Thank you again.
