Family Historian User Group

For some months now, I have been recording 'residence' and attributing it to the contents of the census info I have found. I now want to change my mind and record such 'residence' as a census indicator.

Is it possible to run a database wide script to say something along the lines of

'… if residence > blank and attribute = census 1841, then replace residence fact with census fact.

If it is, what should the syntax look like?

Any thoughts and help appreciated.

Apologies if I'm not very good at saying what I mean.

Unfortunately Family Historian does not currently have a scripting tool built in, but as it uses a simple gedcom (text) file to store the information you can do a prompted search and replace on your file (as always make a safe copy first) and search for RESI all upper case and then you can replace it with CENS when you need to. I would recommend an editor like PSPad, and avoid work processing tools like Word.

I can see that @S7@ translates in to my source Census 1851 (I changed one record to see what would happen).

Can I assume (before I go too far!) that S = source and 7 = record id and that @S6@ would equate to my 1841 census, etc. etc.

Presumably the @ is just part of the syntax.

Yes, @..@ is a record or a record link.

S = Source
I = Individual
F = Family
etc,

If you are changing them be careful not to change the actual record ID as well.
