Installation on new computer

Post by LindafromMurton » 09 Jul 2011 23:13

I purchased the download version of V4 when it first came out. Also downloaded the update.

I am shortly to take delivery of a new computer (with Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit)and cannot find the discs I burnt with the downloaded software.

Can anyone please advise how I can install V4 on my new computer and then transfer all my data from my old computer.

Correction - it looks like I must have bought Version 3 because I have just found a disc of FH upgrade from 3 to 4 which I copied.

Still no further forward though.

Install V3 on the new computer and start it up, then install your V3-V4 upgrade CD and finally the V4.1.3 upgrade which can be downloaded from

Assuming you have a project just copy the whole Family Historian Project Folder from the old computer to the new one.

Full details of the FH installation process is in the Knowledge Base at:

You will need the Registration Key for both V3 and the V3-V4 upgrade.

An alternative way of transferring your data and settings from old PC to new PC is to use Windows Easy Transfer, which comes with Windows 7, and works with any old PC running Windows XP or Vista.
If you can connect both old PC & new PC to your broadband router at the same time then it is straightforward.
Other means of transfer include a special USB lead, or external disc/DVD.
It transfers not just FH but all your other data and settings.

Hello, well I had the house upside down and could not find my V3 disc. Found the upgrade disc but no such luck with the first one.

So, I have bought the boxed version of version 4 and it came today. Will be kept very safe.

New copy installed and all my projects transferred via a flash stick onto the new computer. I am now a happy pixie.

Thank you for the advice offered.

Kind regards[smile]
