Registration of a Death

Does anyone know the answer to this?
In 1941 my uncle was serving with the RAF in India and was killed in a motor cycle accident. He is buried in the CWGC cemetery in Calcutta.
The question I have is where would his death have been registered? Would it be in Calcutta or the UK.
Depending on the answer I then have another question.
If it was registered in the UK then in which district? (I have searched FreeBMD but came up with no results)
If it was in Calcutta then is there any possiblity of being able to find it - bearing in mind that there was a war on at the time?
Any suggestions would be appreciated
