Occupation Field

Not sure if this is an Ancestral Sources or FH issue. The occupation field in the Individual property window is populated when entering census data via AS. But the window will only show the earliest occupation from AS by default, and i can't override it. When looking at an individual's property summary i would expect the occupation to be if anything their last occupation, particularly when early occupation may have been entered as Scholar.

If, for example I try to change occupation from scholar to  a last occupation of ag lab in the occupation field, that then changes the occupation for the census when scholar was correct on the Facts/Events tab. Regardless of use of sources, i cannot enter an occupation to override the Ancestral Sources occupations without messing up what appears in the Facts Tab. It is entirely possible that occupation data is gleaned from other sources, so i would expect to be able to enter what i want in that field. If this has been mentioned elsewhere I apologise, but couldn't find anything.

Continuing on from that other thread, you can show as many Occupations as you like along with their associated Date by using index values [last], [last-1], [last-2], et seq, in reverse order.

Just to answer your question directly, for those who read this but are not interested enough to follow the links.

This is a Family Historian issue, Ancestral Sources records the occupation details correctly.

Best wishes

Cant work out how I actually add a custom item such as last occupation. And the Edit Custom Item box seems to be permanently greted...

Thanks for any advice

Assuming you are talking about the Customise Property box, select Occupation on the left press the > button to move it over and then select it and then press the Edit button.

Cracked it now - not sure how, but i did something that made custom item appear in the Available Items window, so I've now added the last occupation. Thanks

Re jane's advice. that's what ive been trying to do, but the Edit Custom Item button has remained steadfastly greyed out. In the end i created a new custom item Occupation Last, and edited that. Occupation as it stands in Available Items was not custom so I couldn't do anything with it.

Just to clarify:

You cannot edit predefined items.
You can only use Edit Custom Item if the item has the suffix (custom).

To create custom items you must first untick Show most commonly-used items only.
Then Available Items includes (for advanced users)....
Select this item and click > button in the centre to add it to Selected Items.
Then you can edit it.
