Probably three stupid questions, but here goes - I'm thinking of using DropBox, but presumably my files will be on there instead of on my computer? So what happens if something goes wrong with DropBox?

At the moment my photos are in 'My Pictures' though I do copy them over when I use them, does this mean that when I copy them they are now in my Project folder?

2GB of space doesn't sound very much, will it hold all of my project, my photos (family history and others) and maybe other assorted documents?

I have read the comments on here, but I'm still confused, old age must be kicking in.[cry]

My your files will be on your computer(s) and on Dropbox, so there are always at least 2 copies of each file (I do recommend also backing up to another location as a full backup as well, as if you delete files from your PC they will be deleted from Dropbox as well).

If FH is copying them they will be in your Project Folder, you can use the Tools/Work With External File links to check.

You can quickly check the size of your Project folder, by right clicking on it in Windows Explorer and selecting Properties. If you really need more space you can always buy a larger Dropbox $10 a month for 50Gb.

I have more than 1,000 images & photos, each on average roughly 1Mb in size.
My main project has over 2,000 files and is less than 1Gb in total.
So my project would only half fill Dropbox 2Gb.

There are other ways to get more free space on Dropbox.
See the Dropbox FAQ Is there any way to get more space?
You can earn additional free space by simply completing the quests on the Get Started tab or by referring your friends.
The quests on the Get Started tab are easy, take minutes, and earn 250MB upon completion.
The referral program offers 250MB for every friend who joins Dropbox.

Thank you Jane and Tatewise, I downloaded dropbox and moved my Project Folder into it, but it seems to be a Public Folder rather than a Private one, is this right?

Assuming you did not put the Family Historian Project folder in the public folder on Dropbox then it's private.

Yes, I moved the whole folder into Dropbox so that I had four folders in there, the three that they set up and my own Project folder, but when I looked at my project it said that it was a Public Folder.

Where are you seeing it say public? There is a public folder in every Family Historian Project, but it's not public in Dropbox terms.

Oops! Thanks Jane, I didn't realise that that file was there.
