Birth Details of Children in Reports

Post by SallyL » 20 May 2003 12:14

I am probably beign thick here but does anyone know how to display the birth details of an individuals children in an idividual summary report.  In the events property box you can tick show births/adoption of children but in an individual summary report it doesn't display the childrens births in the individual events and attributes list which is what I want do.

Also, is there any chance of having the additional information displayed along with the relevant entry in the main list as it would be easier to read.  At the moment I find that you have to count the number of census/residence etc entries to match up the additional information ... just a thought, may be it could be altered for the next upgrade?

Thanks
Sally

I don't think you can currently,  obviously you get a very similar effect on the Family Group Sheet.

The Childrens Births are not actually events for the Induvidual, but as the Events Tab on the properties dialog shows them, I suspect it would make sense for them to appear in the list.

I think the things you have asked for have been asked for before, so keep your fingers crossed.

Jane posted this one to me - as a hint I think. She has previously made more or less the same requests. Anyway, they are on the Wish List and with luck you might get them both in the next release (the add. info one in particular).

You can at a pinch get the children's birth details into an Ind Summary report, but you have to add them to the Main section. Go to the Main tab of the Report Options dialog and click on the Add.. button to add a new Main section item. Set label to 'Child:' (or sim) and expression to '%INDI.~CHIL[1]>NAME[1]%, %INDI.~CHIL[1]>BIRT[1].DATE% %INDI.~CHIL[1]>BIRT[1].PLAC%' (use copy and paste from this msg if you can). Click Add. Repeat this to add a 2nd child field, exactly the same except that you shld change all occurrences of CHIL[1] to CHIL[2]. Then repeat again with CHIL[3, and so on until you have more child fields than anyone could have children.

Its probably not exactly what you want, but it may be better than nothing for the time being.

Birth Details of Children in Reports

Thanks Simon and Jane, I'll try the suggestion. If you add narrative reports and the others I mentioned I can ditch Legacy.  At the moment I run both which means putting the data in twice.  While we are contemplating suggestions ... Legacy has a nice chronology report ... any chance of something similar :))

Thanks

Birth Details of Children in Reports

I have tried what Simon suggested but when I print report it shows all the expression details. I have double checked what I have typed to what Simon says and they match. But still get the information against children in the report.

Any suggestions where I have gone wrong?

Did you remember to remove the ' around the formula ?

The forumla is repeated below for you

%INDI.~CHIL[1]>NAME[1]%, %INDI.~CHIL[1]>BIRT[1].DATE% %INDI.~CHIL[1]>BIRT[1].PLAC%
