Does anyone know if its possible to create user defined fields within a gedcom record.
For example I have been working on a tree charting all the descendants of the Electress Sophia. Using Custom IDs and various flags I have been able to create a list people in line to the thrown. What I would like to do is actualy have a field which shows their position I.E Charles would be first William second Harry third etc. However because of its size and spread some people in line to the british throne are also in line to other thrones . IE Swedish Norwegian. I would like to be able to create fields for those lineas of succession as well.
Does anyone know if this is possible within a gedcom structure and if so can it be done with Family Historian.
further some of the living descendants now have email addresses and facebook pages. I would like to be able to record those as well.
any suggestions gratefully received.

User Defined Fields
Why can't you use a set of custom attributes?

I would recommend using the standard individual Attribute Title. The GEDCOM 5.5 standard includes: 'The title given to or used by a person, especially of royalty or other noble class within a locality.' An individual can have as many Title entries as needed, each with its relevant Date (or Period, i.e. start and end dates), and Place. It would then be possible to select those individuals with a relevant Title for a particular Place.

User Defined Fields
I use user defined fields extensively in Family Historian. Unfortunately, FH does not allow users to enter them directly, so I add them using a text editor. Once they've been added, they will show up in FH and can be manipulated as expected i.e. edit, copy, paste, etc. So generally if I add a tag like _URL to a source record once, I can then just copy and paste from that record to a new record and edit appropriately. It is a hassle, but it works. I do really really wish though that FH would allow me to just add one from within the program. It would be an easy change and be a great benefit to power users like myself. Check out my website to see how these user tags are used to greatly enhance the detail in the data that can be presented.
