Ancestral Sources v2 -  Beta Testing

Post by nsw » 28 Feb 2011 10:46

I'm hoping that in the next few weeks I'll be ready to start beta-testing version 2 of Ancestral Sources. The major new feature for this version is the ability to add baptism information. Of course it will also continue to support census data (as introduced in version 1) and also adding images to existing entries (as introduced in version 1.1).

It will allow you to select (or create) an individual and their parents, specify the baptism location, date, age and/or date of birth of individual being baptised, parents' occupations, individual and parents' residence, birth place of individual, minister officiating as well as associated people such as god-parents or witnesses. This all works with the same mechanisms that are familiar to those of you who use A.S. currently - i.e. all these are linked to a source and images can be linked, flags automatically created, auto-text to produce source text, etc.

There have been a lot of new features to develop for this version which is why it has taken me a number of months to get to this stage. However, most of these new systems will be used for the other source document types: marriages, births, etc. and so I hope there'll be a shorter time to wait for each of the other source types to appear in subsequent versions.

If you would like to help me to test this version please drop me an email via Nick AT AncestralSources DOT com. You need to be confident in dealing with your files, working with copies, ensuring that if any errors do crop-up you don't lose any of your precious family history data. You also need to have some free time over the testing period (typically 3 or 4 weeks) to test the various features, entering baptism records, etc. You may need to install various new versions that I regularly produce over the testing period to fix problems as they are reported. You also need to be prepared to email feedback and report issues to me.

In the email that you send can you let me know which version of Windows you use?

Many thanks

Nick

Ancestral Sources v2 -  Beta Testing

Nick,

I assume that by default it will add a baptim fact, but will it be possible to change this (either as the default or an option on each entry) to christening etc?

I've just sent an email with the first beta test version to all those who volunteered. If you volunteered and haven't received the email, first check it hasn't been classed as spam and if still no sign of it please let me know.

Best wishes

Hi Nick,

How do you want problems/observations noted?

I would suggest within this forum, as separate posts, to lessen duplicate spots.

OK

As an aside I've used to the colour option on 1.9 to tell it apart from 1.1
