Keep cursor in Property Box

Post by Rose » 18 Feb 2011 16:08

Hi
I'm new to using FH and finding data entry in the Property Box a bit of a pain. Every time I switch windows to look at my source data, when I switch back to FH the cursor has gone from the point that I left it in Property Box. It goes to the first box on the Focus window and I can't find a quick, mouse-free way of getting it back to where I was typing.
Can anyone tell me how to make the cursor stay put or failing that how to get it back to where it was without having to use a mouse.
Any help appreciated.

It's not currently possible, but it's on the wish list

Thanks, Jane. Disappointing as I thought FH was well provided with keyboard shortcuts, and this 'feature' really slows things down as well as being painful on the hands.

Personally, I window my FH screen with the source so I don't need to keep activating the other window.

Yes, can do that, or the suggestion on the wish list of letting it float seems to work. Plenty to learn - good to know there are experts around.

Jane ,as ever your replies are most helpful and I know I'm being really thick but could you explain this for me please ? I understand the initial problem but due to my inexperience cannot understand 'window my FH screen with the source' Sorry!
Many thanks

I think Jane means that she resizes the Family Historian window so that she can see Family Historian and the source data on the same screen without having to switch between the windows.

Whether this is possible for you will probably depend on the resolution of your monitor and the size of your source document window.

At a standard screen size if I were to 'window my FH screen with the source' I would find that the source would need to be scrolled down, eg a newspaper item that I am typing into a field, or a census image would be rather small to read and so back to the problem.

The majority of my input has been done using Alt-tab from one window back to FH and as I have recently input numerous entries - having luckily been on a roll - this problem has become extremely annoying.

I have already voted on the Wish List - this Wish was raised back in 2009 - PLEASE is it getting any nearer to being resolved. If Nick can successfully achieve this in his Ancestral Sources, and previously his Gedcom Census, how is it not possible in the main software.

Mary
